Fresh Real Ale in Your Living RoomCharles Wells' Brewery produces the world's first real ale mini cask.
Ale drinkers will be raising a toast to Charles Wells Brewery, which is launching an innovative Mini Cask to ensure that beer fans can now enjoy fresh cask real ale at home, in the same way as they would in a pub.
The introduction of the Mini Cask, which serves the brewery's award-winning Bombardier English Premium Bitter, is the first time that real ale has been made available in this way. The Bombardier Mini Cask has been developed by the in-house team at the Bedford-based brewery.
Containing 8.8 pints (5 litres), the Bombardier Mini Cask provides a more authentic ale drinking experience than other canned or bottled beers because it is live and contains sediment natural to cask ale. This ensures that the beer served has the distinctive taste and aroma associated with real ale.
The ale is dispensed through a tap on the side of the cask. It should be stored in a chilled area such as a kitchen or garage, and consumed within four days of opening.
Charles Wells's Sales and Marketing director, Nigel McNally, said: "This is an exciting development for the industry and for real ale fans. Real cask ale has always been something that drinkers can enjoy in their local but not their home - until now."
Roget Protz, editor of the Good Beer Guide and leading beer writer, explained:
"Bombardier Mini Cask is a brilliant innovation. Now you can enjoy beer at home with all the aroma, flavour and character of a pint in the pub.
This is a tremendous boost for British beer. If you can't get to a pub, enjoy a pint of fresh ale at home and support the beer style that is so much part of our island's heritage."
